Leo Laporte makes a smart argument for changing the name “podcast” to something like “netcast” which doesn’t introduce the confusing connotations with the iPod. This may be an especially important thing to do in light of Apple’s recent claims that the term “podcast ready” is a violation of their trademark.

Honestly, if the ‘casting community had taken a moment to look forward they could have avoided this whole mess. It will be even harder to change the terminology now. Although, this also gives them an advantage, as its prolific use will make it difficult to continue actively pursuing this tactic.
