Feds to Let Citizens Log In With Yahoo, Google, Paypal Accounts (via OpenID)

Bookmarked via Diigo on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 @ 12:11 CDT by Daniel Andrlik

This is an enormous win for OpenID, but it is also a huge risk if anything goes wrong with such a high-profile project. Obviously, it will all depend on the implementation, and if all goes well it will give OpenID the push it needs to increase the number of consumers as opposed to providers, which is a ratio that is sorely lopsided at the moment.

I’m a little sad to see that my preferred OpenID provider, myOpenID from JanRain, Inc., was not included in the approved list of providers for the pilot program. Hopefully, that will be rectified soon, although even if it does not, one of the great things about the OpenID protocol is that delegation means that I can change providers on a whim. :-)

Google Testing OpenID With Blogger, May Offer OpenIDs To Users

Bookmarked via Diigo on Friday, November 30, 2007 @ 07:41 CST by Daniel Andrlik

This is great news for OpenID. As Duncan Riley writes in this article, “If the 1000 pound Gorilla in the room decides to adopt OpenID across its range of products, presumably with Blogger being only the first step of a broader rollout, OpenID may finally take off outside of the first adopter and tech communities.”

OAuth — Documentation

Bookmarked via Diigo on Friday, September 21, 2007 @ 21:15 CDT by Daniel Andrlik

First draft of the OAuth spec, which aims to provide a standard API for various services to interact with each other in a secure way. So, you wouldn’t be handing over you username and password every time you wanted an app to be able to access your address book, which also means you can limit it’s ability to use the external service it is connecting to. It’s a neat idea, and obviously in the early stages, but we will need this (or something like it) if we ever intend to get over the privacy and security hurdles on the path to portable social networks.

Jyte: Spread the Cred

Bookmarked via Diigo on Friday, August 3, 2007 @ 22:55 CDT by Daniel Andrlik

This OpenID enabled site allows you to vote on claims, or make your own. As you get to know other users you can give each other cred (positive or negative) for specific categories. It sounds simple, it sounds silly, but it is addictive as hell.

ClaimID is refocusing, and aims to become the finest OpenID provider out there. This is such a logical move, and I’m excited to see what these guys come up with.
