Yahoo! to Announce Semantic Web Support - ReadWriteWeb

Bookmarked via Diigo on Thursday, March 13, 2008 @ 22:16 CDT by Daniel Andrlik

TechCrunch and Search Engine Land are reporting this morning that Yahoo! will now be indexing Semantic Web and Microformats markup from around the web…”

This is huge. You can pretty much assume that Google intends to follow suit, and if search engines begin indexing things like FOAF, Microformats and geoRSS, the possibilities of the kinds of analysis you can do is astounding.

Monkey Boy’s three-legged race

Bookmarked via Diigo on Thursday, February 7, 2008 @ 11:58 CST by Daniel Andrlik

Great piece from FSJ on the potential Microsoft-Yahoo merger. “It’s like taking the two guys who finished second and third in a 100-yard dash and tying their legs together and asking for a rematch, believing that now they’ll run faster.”

Read it, it’s wonderful and hilarious.

Official Google Blog: Yahoo! and the future of the Internet

Bookmarked via Diigo on Sunday, February 3, 2008 @ 15:46 CST by Daniel Andrlik

OK sure, it’s troubling what Microsoft could do to Yahoo’s openness and the quality of their products. Microsoft has got a rep for acquiring and then ruining properties. But come on, Google, are you really that worried?

Mentioning the “overwhelming share of instant messaging and web email accounts”? Is this a petty revenge for Microsoft making such a stink about you buying DoubleClick?

I mean, I share some of these concerns, particularly how it could affect services/products like Flickr, Delicious, Pipes and the YUI libary’s development, but something just seems off here, oh mighty Google.

Great little piece by Simon Willison on what we can possibly expect from Yahoo! incorporating OpenID into Flickr and other services.
