Another two week recap! Travel, site improvements, python, and podcasting; oh my!

At this rate I might have to rename this segments to Monthnotes. So let’s at least talk about the last two weeks, shall we? Python, podcasting, media, oh my.

Summing up this week in everything Daniel: code, podcasting, health stuff, book and tv reviews, oh my!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these. The last few work weeks have been so busy that by the end of the Friday work day I’ve been too tired to write a post. But I’m back home after a week overseas and it’s a long weekend, so let’s use this opportunity to catch up.

I’m in the Netherlands currently so I’ve had lots of meetings while fighting jet lag. This week in Daniel: Finished reading How To Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. It was an excellent novel about generational trauma, grief, and evil puppets.

This week in Daniel was quite busy: Lots of work stuff to do, so that kept me running. Setup a Github Action workflow to automatically deploy this site whenever I push a change, and then to also do automated deployments every 15 minutes for any content that I had scheduled in advance by using a future date.

I’m still alive! I’ve recovered from COVID, and back in the saddle. This week in Daniel: Did a bunch of catching up on work stuff since I was out sick most of last week.

This week in Daniel: After a rough first week of jetlag, finally caught up on sleep. Visited Escher in the Palace, a museum dedicated to the work of M.C. Escher, which resides in the former winter palace of Queen Emma of the Netherlands.

Hi there. It’s been a while. I had a whirlwind of activity over the last few weeks, both on the work and podcasting front, and quite frankly getting around to writing up these update posts was beyond my available bandwidth.

Another week of work in the Netherlands is wrapping up. I’m publishing today’s weeknotes a bit early as I’m about to board a flight on my way back the US, and I strongly doubt I’ll have the energy to write this up after two flights and a long layover at LHR.

This week I’ve been in the Netherlands for work, so between jet lag and meetings I’ve been pretty wiped out. Still, I’ve managed to get a few non-work related things done as well.

Back in the saddle, baby.

I realize it’s actually Tuesday, but it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these weeknotes, so here we go! Over the course of the last week: Finished watching Brand New Cherry Flavor on Netflix, which was an outstanding horror miniseries.

This week in the world of Daniel: Released two new versions of django-quotes. Those are focused around making the app more flexible for lots of users, and some developer help with typing annotations.

This week in the world of Daniel: I updated my quote service project to use my reusable django-quotes app. This should make maintenance easier. Since this is a backwards-incompatible change, I also updated ewdiscordbot and ewtwitterbot to use the new API endpoints.

Here’s the scenario: you’ve got an actual play TTRPG podcast, and you want to invite a guest onto your show for a special appearance. This is a great idea! It’s delightful to collaborate with other creators, and you can learn so much simply by working with new people.

It’s been a wild first six months for those of us at Explorers Wanted, and we’ve been humbled and astounded by our growing community of listeners. I love making our show, and talking with our fans has been a delight.

It isn’t news to anyone that I’m a big fan of Numenera. It is my favorite game to run and I will shamelessly hype for it to anyone who will listen.
