This week in the world of Daniel: I updated my quote service project to use my reusable django-quotes app. This should make maintenance easier. Since this is a backwards-incompatible change, I also updated ewdiscordbot and ewtwitterbot to use the new API endpoints.

Author Sam Sykes has concocted a drinking game certain to destroy anyone foolish enough to play it. It’s quite clever, but I am certain that there is no way that this does not end with someone throwing up.

There’s something about Halloween that always draws me back to H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. I’m not alone in this, of course. My good friend Quentin Lewis has taken to releasing recordings of himself reading stories from Lovecraft each Halloween as a podcast, which I highly recommend you check out.

This is absolutely hilarious. Funny enough to make me break my personal rule about embedding video in blog posts. :) I’ll be back to regular blogging soon, I promise.

You simply HAVE to check out this video of what might be the best game ever, which I found via the blog of my friend Chris. The game is called Spore and it looks absolutely incredible.

I found this little animation through Boing Boing. It is a little music video based off of the game Zero Wing sung to the tune of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. It gets a little tedious in the middle, but it is still pretty cute.

I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to Jade Empire the last couple days. Yes, I am a huge nerd and actually bought the musical score of a video game. But you have to understand: it’s that good.

I just found out about this game called Urban Dead from a post on Boing Boing. Urban Dead is an MMO that runs in your browser. It’s actually pretty low tech, but fun in a weird way.

I was just on the Penny Arcade site and found a link to a bizarre little RPG game that runs in your browser. It is strangely simple and infuriatingly difficult in some ways.

A follow up on the now legendary Leeroy. Now you can buy shirts to show support for the misguided efforts of this hapless gamer. Here is what it looks like.

Yet another link I found through Boing Boing to an open letter addressed to Hillary Clinton regarding the whole GTA controversy. The letter is written by Steven Johnson, author of Everything Bad Is Good For You, and I think he puts the whole issue into perspective quite nicely.

I found this link on the blog of my friend British Chris. You do not even have to be a gamer to appreciate this. Leeroy has set a new standard in stupidity and it is pretty hilarious listening to his friends reaction to him.

I have been reading blogs again after a short hiatus and in catching up with the material I missed I have encountered several entries regarding gaming. The question that seems to arise from all of them is: why do men get so drawn into these video games?

So my friend Zach keeps trying to convince me to buy an XBox. Now, I am not much of a gamer. I mean, I used to play some strategy games on the computer ( or as I prefer to say, “strategery”), and I am quite fond of Go (I’m bad at it) and Diplomacy (somewhat better at), but I’ve never really had the knack for console games.
